Virginia Natural Gas held an energy workshop for teachers, in partnership with The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project

Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) has partnered with The National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project to host the 2024 Virginia Energy Workshop. This is the second year this initiative has taken place and is comprised of no-cost energy awareness workshops aimed at expanding teachers’ knowledge around the energy sector. The primary goal is to provide educators with the knowledge and resources they need to enhance their students' understanding of energy, particularly in the areas of clean energy, energy efficiency and conservation.

During this workshop, teachers had the opportunity to participate in activities that promoted learning about how clean, reliable and affordable natural gas is as a resource through:

Interactive Stations: Teachers engaged in hands-on activities at different energy-related stations. These stations are designed to provide practical insights into how energy works and its importance in daily life.

Energy-Efficient Home Building: One of the key activities involved constructing an energy-efficient home. This exercise helps teachers understand the principles of energy efficiency and how they can be applied in real-world scenarios.

Energy Movement Challenges: Another activity focused on the challenges associated with the movement and distribution of energy. This segment highlighted the complexities of energy logistics and its role in strengthening communities.

VNG experts showcased the latest technology in the realms of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles and advanced leak detection. CNG vehicles are known for their lower emissions and cost-effectiveness. The advanced leak detection demonstration featured cutting-edge leak detection technology, showcasing how VNG ensures the safety and reliability of natural gas delivery.

This workshop serves as a valuable professional development opportunity for teachers, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to inspire and educate their students about the importance of clean energy, efficiency and conservation.
