City Gas Light Company receives a charter to illuminate the streets of Norfolk with gas lights. |
1900s |
Through many consolidations and mergers, the company eventually becomes part of the company today known as Dominion Virginia Power. |
1982 |
Management separates the two natural gas and electric power operations and creates Virginia Natural Gas as a separate division of Virginia Power. |
1986 |
VNG becomes a separate subsidiary of the Richmond-based Dominion Resources Inc. |
1990 |
Consolidated Natural Gas Company acquires VNG from Dominion Resources. The VNG operations continue with the same name, management team and practices, but with the significant advantages of affiliation with a large and highly regarded gas company. |
2000 |
The new millennium brings a new owner for VNG: AGL Resources Inc., an Atlanta-based energy holding company. |
2016 |
AGL Resources becomes Southern Company Gas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southern Company. |
