Work in Your Neighborhood

Virginia Natural Gas is committed to providing safe and reliable natural gas service to our more than 310,000 customers across southeastern Virginia. As part of this commitment, we continually perform regular safety checks and maintenance on our pipeline infrastructure through the Steps to Advance Virginia’s Energy (SAVE) program, our company's pipeline modernization initiative aimed at renewing our existing natural gas infrastructure — enhancing the integrity, reliability and safety of our pipeline system.

During our SAVE projects, we replace aging, older pipes with new pipes that are more durable, reduce methane emissions and are less expensive to maintain. There's a chance that you may see our qualified employees and contractors performing work in your neighborhood.

Construction Site Safety

VNG reminds community members to remain vigilant around any active construction site and practice the following safety precautions:

  • Keep children and pets safe by keeping them away from construction areas.
  • Do not park in marked construction zones.
  • Drive carefully when in construction zones.
  • Follow and obey the direction of traffic signs and on-site crews.

Know the Markings

Utility line color codes are used to identify existing underground utilities in construction areas to help protect them from damage during digging and excavation. This is done with temporary markings, either flags or a special spray paint. Please do not tamper with or remove these markings from an active construction site. Note, markings are used to ensure the safety of your neighborhood but do not necessarily represent areas where digging will occur.
